Let me be the first to officially welcome you to the 2022 Cherry Blossom Doubles!!
This year's tournament emphases the idea of "Doubles", as the Cherry Blossom is a doubles tournament and it is a double double-digit year ('22). You might notice references to doubles or twos sprinkled here and there throughout the weekend. We will conclude with "Paume Sunday". NOTE: No matter how you do in your Round Robin group, everyone will play on Paume Sunday.
Please read the important information below!
THE DRAW There were only two minor changes in the draw from the draft. HOWEVER, please see the attached draw to personally confirm that your times are the same. You are responsible for being aware of your match time. The draw can also be found on the tournament website at thecherryblossom.org
GENERAL INFORMATION I will try to send daily updates every night/early morning. You can always find all of the information I send on the tournament website at www.thecherryblossom.org There you will also find the draw, rules and real time results.
Our hope is to stream these matches. If we are technically successful, then you (and your fans) can watch the matches on the Prince's Court YouTube channel (found here).
FORMAT Matches are timed 45 minute, 9-game pro sets played off of handicap. Your warmup is part of the 45 minutes, so be ready to play immediately after the previous match ends. Lateness will not be tolerated. In the event someone is late at the start of the match, an immediate one game penalty is assessed and an additional game for every 4 minutes thereafter.
The top two teams in the group advance to the Finals on Sunday. The bottom two teams will play a "Double or Nothing" Final on Sunday. Order of Sunday's play will be prioritized by out-of-town players playing first.
UNUSUAL RULES OF PLAY CHANGE THAT CHASE!
We are bringing back this favorite from 2013. Teams will have two opportunities to "Change that Chase" by rolling dice on court (located in the dedans trough). If you roll a double, the chase then becomes the corresponding opposite chase. For example, if the chase is Chase 2 and you roll doubles, then the chase becomes Hazard Chase 2. For chases, that don't have an opposite chase, we will use the closest corresponding chase. To use it, yell "Change that Chase!" to the marker before the point is played.
SWAP RECEIVERS If you are on the receiving end and are behind by TWO games, you may swap receivers twice during the match.
DOUBLE BOUNCE When a chase is created, the markers will refer to a chase as a "double bounce"
CHASE 22 If you create a chase of "5&6" (the 22nd chase), you will be entered into a special prize lottery.
